Rainy City – Sturgis 2009 and Quiz Night.

About 15 Hatters took up Rainy City’s invitation to join them for a look at their trip to the Sturgis Rally in 2009 and to try and come out on top in the quiz.

The evening started with Barry from Rainy City giving a rundown on some of their coming events and ride outs. Welsh Pete then stood up and gave a rundown and an invitation to join us at our 4th of July event, then it was on to the quiz. A music quiz tonight and I suppose it was honours even as a team made up of Hatters (Paul and Andrea Imison), Rainy City and Dual members (Helen and Shirley) won with 15 correct answers out of 20. A break for food, meat and potato pie and/or chilli with rice, which went down nicely with the odd drink or two. This was then followed the trip to Sturgis, a great presentation not only of photographs, some of scantily clad lasses, but the occasional video clip and geological explanations into how the various features of the landscape they passed through had been formed over millions of years. We were also given a detailed explanation, with photographs, into the carving of the Presidents on Mt. Rushmore. Next year it’s the Pacific Coast Highway – Seattle to San Diego. The evening finished about 10:15pm, thanks to all at Rainy City for making us welcome.

Geriatric

Hi

I am finding it difficult to find the words to express my thanks for the wonderful way in which you all received me and my friends yesterday at your meeting, but please believe me when I say that it was the most wonderful experience of my late life. As I said, although I have been a biker all of my life and am aware of the comradeship that exists between us all, never have I felt such warmth and friendship that I witnessed within your own Harley members. Please pass on my thanks to them ALL and particularly to all the Peters, Paul and of course Arthur who took me for my first ride on a Harley, Nneka tells me that the delight on my face was testament to my excitement and joy.

I have downloaded all of the video footage that Nneka recorded for my archive collection , so that I have it available to show to friends, and am in the process of editing it for a short video which I will be uploading to Youtube as soon as it is finished. I will let you know when that has been uploaded and send you a link to it if any of your members would like to see. I will of course wear the T shirt that you very generously gave to me and naturally will put a link to your website in the description box.

With very best wishes to you all.

Safe riding

Peter

3rd message from Reed

Hi
LOVED the footage on Youtube of Peter (Geriatric 1927). He's great, and you all were so thoughtful to arrange that event for him. I just had to write to say that. Best wishes to all the members of your chapter.

A NEW HOME FOR ‘THE HATTERS’

It is with great enthusiasm that we can announce to all, our decision to move our Chapter Meeting Night location from the Replay in Stockport to the Greater Manchester Police Social Centre, Hough End. This is without doubt a tremendous coup for us all and the benefits of the new venue are ‘ HUGE’. For some it will be closer and for others it will be further. Hough End is approx 7 miles from the Replay taking the long route along the M60. There is a shorter/direct route (4.5 miles) however this will take you through many traffic lights. See map for recommended route. I have travelled both routes and had no dramas.
We will place route signs at the main entrance.

The main benefits are:

  • Ample (yes ample) parking for motorcycles and cars.
  • Large room with seating/tables for 150 plus (a seat for all).
  • Large bar area (well staffed – a new experience for us!!!).
  • Outside seated areas for good weather (have faith).
  • Lounge bar with nice comfy seats for tired bums.
  • A very welcoming staff.
  • Excellent facility for B-B-Q’s in the summer.
  • Bar food.
  • The venue provides a crackin’ atmosphere.

The venue will allow us to grow our numbers without that packed in feeling.
